[EN] In Memory of the Founder of the KILPI Ingrian Battalion Initiative
Suur Suomensotilaat
In Memory of the Founder of the KILPI Ingrian Battalion Initiative
On the night of 20 October 2026, sad news was published on the official page of the Ingrian Battalion KILPI announcing the unexpected passing of the founder of the KILPI Ingrian Battalion initiative.
On 19 October 2026, we lost an Ingrian Finn, Anton Mulkahainen, call sign “Akula” (“Shark”).
Anton was a passionate patriot of his homeland, known for his active stance in support of Ingrian independence from Moscow’s tyranny. From the beginning of Russia’s full-scale military aggression, Anton opposed the actions of the occupying forces and stood with Ukraine, having fought in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) since 2014.
Akula’s first official appearance and the public introduction of the KILPI initiative are believed to have taken place on 5 December 2023, on the eve of Finland’s Independence Day. That was when the battalion’s channel published its first post, in which he announced the start of recruitment:
“Today, our ideological platform embraces our brotherly Finno-Ugric peoples, and we are ready to defend and reclaim our independence with arms in our hands, after many years of our identity being destroyed and our people being used as raw material for the broader political system.”
The ethnic Ingrians declared the need to establish a battalion — Suur-Suomensotilaat.
Anton Mulkahainen later appeared on numerous discussion platforms, repeatedly raising the issue of Ingrian independence.
This is not an isolated example of military valour: Finno-Ugric fighters are standing up for the interests of independent republics while fighting on Ukraine’s side. We can confidently say that Ukraine’s victory would also offer a chance for our own independence.
On the official page of the Ingrian Battalion — Inkerin pataljoona KILPI — supporters of independence expressed their condolences and stated that the struggle to build a space for kindred peoples, Suur-Suomen Sotilaat, continues in full force, and recruitment to the battalion remains open.
